Product Light Painting

Today we did product light painting in the studio. We brought in a product to shoot along with some fun props. I struggled at first trying to come up with an interesting concept, but after a few different setups I discovered an interesting technique. Keep in mind I am shooting in a completely dark space with just a few lights and gels to work with :) Below are a few of my successful images...

Artist Emulation Project

For our History of Vision class we are studying artists from the past. One of our assignments is to pick a photographer that inspires us and emulate one of their photos. I chose Man Ray because of his surrealistic style and unusual imagery. Below is Man Ray's original image, followed by my representation of it....

Photoshop Final!

For my photoshop final project I incorporated all that I have learned in photoshop thus far (Color Balance, Retouching, Masking, Editing, Blending, and Working With Layers) to create an unusual image. I took a portrait of someone in my class and added features from other people in my class. The eyes, nose, left eyebrow and monkey head are a combination  of my classmates.

Below is the result...

Portrait Lighting

Yesterday we did more portrait lighting in our studio at VanArts. We got in small groups and practiced with the different lighting setups (soft box, beauty dish, and shoot through) to produce the five different lighting styles for portraits. Below are the images I am going to submit for my assignment...

Nude and Figure

This week we continued our study of Nude and Figure Photography with a trip to Ironworks Studios in Vancouver. We had the opportunity to photograph three models with body alterations (tattoos and piercings).

We all had a ton of fun and got some great shots! I've only uploaded a few images that I thought would be safe enough to post (sorry, no naughty bits!)

Lighting!

Last week we started learning about Lighting! We learned the 5 styles of Portrait Lighting (Broad, Short, Spilt-tone, Butterfly, and Rembrandt) and did a little bit of product lighting.

We also got an intro into photo retouching for people- how to diminish wrinkles, unwanted pores and brighten complexion. Basically, how to make people look their best- we are not editing, we are simply fixing the camera's mistakes :)

On Thursday we had our first Nude Photography session! It was a great learning experience, but I don't think I'm allowed to post the images... I'll look into it...
